In ancient times, property was usually inherited by the eldest son. In this instance, Ishmael happens to be older than Isaac. But Abraham showed favoritism towards Isaac or so it would appear. No wonder there is so much strife between their respective descendants today, eh? Because Ishmael was a victim of injustice, it follows that his descendants would be acutely aware of injustices around them. Islam requires Muslims to ensure justice, perhaps that is why God gave Islam to the descendants of Ishmael. IC
