I see that the hydrogen fuel cell idea's been making the rounds this weekend, both in the NY Times and the cover story of Barron's
online.wsj.com
Niether writer brings up the issue of isolating pure hydrogen. Does anyone with a more recent chemical education than mine know of a process that can do this without a net energy input? Fuel cells are fine for orbital and other applications where a self contained energy source is needed, but in all the hype I haven't seen an economical method to use them.
