It's sickening, imo. The higher ideal is one that is antiracist and clearly Lott sits in the other camp when he praises Strom Thurmond and how we'd be better off today if the old guy had got elected. "Lott’s problem is that in this moment, in 2002, the two great forces in his life are colliding: his love of order and the events that were unfolding all around him when he was growing up—and which he appears not to have ever thought about deeply enough to avoid making the kinds of remarks that are now haunting him." True enough!

Republicans don't support what Lott said and he has to pay by leaving his leadership post. Republicans take care of their problems, unlike Democrats who are so permissive they still keep Teddy Kennedy, Robert Byrd, and Bill Clinton.

The Republican Party seems to be in a frenzy, afraid people are going to realize the only Race that the party cares about, is the Race leading up to the 2004 elections!
