What worked for them was increasing the turnout of the Male White vote and, surprisingly, an increase in the Female White vote, especially in the Suburbs. That seems to be a "War" thing with the ladies, possible due to the "Nesting" instinct to protect the young. :^) I've read the same interpretations and some of the same data. I don't agree or, to be a bit more cautious, consider them more than a little premature. The biggest thing about the 02 elections was Bush' ability to nationalize to pick up a precious few votes (but very strategic) and the lack of any attractive dem alternative. If the gender thing extends into 04, then I'll need to rethink my map of American politics. I'm still stuck with Judis as my basic guide to all this. That makes 02 an anomaly. OK, you can tell me it's a pipe dream. But 02 was basically about a small number of votes. Waiting for the Sunday night football game to begin.
