I did a little googling, learned (to my surprise) on one map that Georgia is Europe, but Azerbaijan is not. Which caused me to break out in laughter. The only difference between Azerbaijan and Georgia is that Georgia is majority Christian and Azerbaijan is majority Muslim.

To the credit of cartographers, some classify Azerbaijan as part of Europe. Some classify even Kyrgyzstan as part of Europe.

I can't figure out how Kyrgyzstan is part of Europe, but assuming that it is, how is Israel not?

I played around a little with maps of Pangaea, and still can't figure it out.

(The people of Kyrgyzstan are Turkic, aka "white," is that the explanation? If so, why not Israel, Lebanon, and the like?)
