On others, as soon as you move over to the right, (which really it is a no, no... us speedsters have rules, you know -g passing on the right is really not a good idea. (*) in some other cases, these road slugs have the knack to do this type of thing as they are passing an even slower slug. Then they do an even worse thing, some time on purpose, sometimes because their brains cannot figure out that it is easier to pass that other person and move over... and they become "road corks" (you see, they are blocking your way). (*) Once... on a 4 lane, serious downhill mountain road, I saw this driver who was changing lanes as she was taking curves... she was probably doing 75 to 85 plus/minus. I was coming on a lot faster, so I approached her carefully... I reduced my speed so the differential would not be so dramatic, as I began to close on her, I begun to chose the spot where I would make the move. It became evident to me she thought she was by herself as she simply never recognized my prescence as I was approaching closer, she would have "cut" me (if I did not lift the accelerator). So, I waited for her to switch lanes as she took a curve to the right, with a left hander approaching next... As soon as she dove for the apex on the right hander, I was hard on the gas (in effect passing her on the left side --the proper side-- on the "outside" of that righthander... Next comes the lefthander, with me already with 1/3 of my car between her and the apex of the lefthander.... As I suspected, she had NOT seen me and started to dive to the opposite side (that is, coming on towards me). I knew I was safe because by the time she would "cross my path" I would have cleared her... <the advantage of having a responsive car.> zooom. My concern was her reaction... As soon as she finally saw me (already zooming past her), In my rear view mirror I saw her overreact and unbelievably, swerved to the opposite side violently... I saw her nearly hit the armco barrier past the right side lane and on the shoulder of the road... zig-zagging, nearly out of control... had it been raining, she would have spun off and splated herself against the armco... So... no, only on rare occasions would I preferred to pass on the right side... as it is, the slow driver who drives stubbornly on the left side is bad news already, I do not want to make it worse...
