This dude is going to cleaners...Hedge fund manager gives his picks
In this weekends Barron's, Hedge fund manager Jeff Gendell (who is up 33% this yr in one of his funds) issues a bullish call on the market. Gendell is particularly positive on housing stocks, where he has about 40% of his fund. He says Centex (CTX) is the cheapest stock in the S&P 500, trading at just 5x earnings: "Why would I buy another stock." He also is positive on the Oil Service Holdrs (OIH), Iberiabank (IBKC), and homebuilders PHM and KBH. Gendell is short gold stocks on view the asset values are below the stock-market values. He mentions Newmont Mining (NEM) specifically in the interview.
