Preview: Samsung SGH-V200

Today we are going to analyse a very interesting cellular phone. Produced by the Korean manufacturer, Samsugn, it is identified by the name SGH-V200. This is the first Camera Phone from Samsung for the European market.

It was already preannounced last summer and presented on the occasion of SMAU 2002 last October, the V200 inaugurates the idea of the Samsung CameraPhone: together in one product, a telephone and a digital camera for sending images just taken and communicating your emotions in real time. Not to be confused with its Oriental brother, the SCH-V200 (which works on CDMA networks), the new SGH-V200 is a triband GSM cellular phone, GPRS class 8 (4+1), with a WAP 1.2.1. browser. Thanks to the MMS multimedia messaging system, the SGH- V200 from Samsung allows you to create and send messages containing text, images, and polyphonic melodies.

Very special with regards to technology and functions, the Samsung SGH-V200 distinguishes itself with its unmistakeable double display and its reduced size (90.8 x 47.5 x 23 mm in 96 grams of weight). The internal display of 65,000 colours (a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels, 10 lines of text) allows you to see images in an extremely realistic way. With the digital camera incorporated in the cellular phone it is possible to verify the exact view on the display and take a picture by simply pressing a key.

The digital camera is perfectly integrated in the design of the mobile phone. It can rotate 180 degrees, and has a lens with 4X zoon and a CCD (Charge Coupled Device, which is able to optimise the intensity of the image depending on the level of light present). The cellular phone can save up to 100 shots, set the exposure values, review archived images, and send them via email. It is also possible to choose your favourite images as the background for your display.

As far as the ring tones are concerned, a peculiarity of the Samsung SGH-V200 is support of polyphonic ring tones at 40 tones. There is also the guarantee of excellent audio quality, which allows you to make your MMS messages even more original. The battery supplied is 700 mAh. It allows for a relatively limited autonomy: up to 90 minutes in conversation and up to 100 hours in standby. The launch date of the new SGH-V200 is imminent. It should be available in stores already in the next few days, or starting from the first trimester of 2003, at a price that has not yet been communicated.
