ot -- we'll see if this turns out to be the 'wrong' Giambi.

Jason's career OPS
761; 836; 857; 873; 975 (1999); 1123; 1137; 1034

so he got better every year, and totally busted out the year he turned 28

Jeremy's career OPS
741; 761; 841; 919

so he's gotten better every year (though clearly not on the trajectory of his big bro) and he just turned 28.

i am not in any way suggesting that Jeremy is gonna be a 1000 OPS guy, but he's (i) young; (ii) likely to get better, at least for a couple of years; and (iii) cheap. with Manny and Nomar, we don't need more stars; we need more guys who don't suck (e.g. Daubach, Tony Clark, and oh my god Rey Sanchez). Todd Walker (replacing Sanchez) and Giambi (replacing Clark / taking ABs from Daubach) helps us a lot there.

that said, if we can't get Contreras or Colon, with our newly unimproved defense we're likely to give UP 1000 runs...

Cheers
