a bit of trivia:

december 17th, 1981: record inflation.

a report by statistics canada revealed that
the cost of living in vancouver had risen a
staggering 14.5 per cent during 1981.

caused primarily by higher prices for goods
and services, the holiday shopping season
was impacted.

lower mainland residents tried to cope by
seeking low-cost ham and turkey for sale in
u.s. border towns.

grade A turkeys were selling for 55 cents a
pound south of the border, compared to $1.28
in canada. boneless ham was selling for about
$4 a pound, but just $1.69 in american shops.

****************

we managed to get by during those days and
i'm sure we will again.
