Yeah, well, one of my brothers has a birthday about a week after New Year's Day, and it sometimes works against him, because everyone is pretty tapped out. In flush years, though, it can work for him, since he sometimes gets money added to his Christmas allotment to kill two birds with one stone.

My father is not having his little seasonal get together this year (he and stepmom are going to Sanibel Island instead), so my wife and I were enlisted to have a party between Xmas and New Years for people who would not generally be invited to my mother's actual Xmas deal, plus a few who would. So, we are going to do our own traditional Xmas goose (just the three of us), with all kinds of goodies, then, a couple of nights later, serve about a dozen people (including us) in a party room in my mother's apartment house. I was thinking tapas (you know, a little of this, a little of that), consisting of Greek, Lebanese, and Jewish delicacies, plus some cheese and pate', with a main course of stuffed cornish hens, maybe some salad, and ice cream with "fixin's" for dessert......
