Studies say you're wrong....

Callous killers know how easy it is to get away with murder.... And you can certainly see that passion killings would not be affected by any penalty...

"So, the death sentence falls in that category, it deters future acts of murder"

A deterrent would have prevented the murder in the first place... eg our nukes were a deterrent to the USSR's nukes
If they had launched first, it wouldn't have made much difference if they couldn't launch a second time...

Well if death were such a great deterrent the World Trade Center would still be standing.

Surely you must concede that a death penalty actually encourages some people who like the idea of being executed as some kind of martyr.

Since studies don't show CP as a deterrent, i think the debate should be held on other grounds.

BE

If the death penalty deters 99.9999% of the population from murder you and I call it effective.

If the death penaly fails to deter .00001% of the population from murder that is evidence to some that it is a failure.

The absurd argument. Not one drug would ever be approved by this reasoning.
