Isn't it great ?

I drove up to the neighborhood yesterday and spent the night in a nice little lodge. Today, despite warnings from friends and the weather guys, I decided to drive up to FC, without chains <the CHP would have fined me $200 if they knew i wasn't even carrying chains>.

It had been snowing for the last 48 hours but this morning there was bright sunlight everywhere. Narrow, uphill road thru the snow covered pines, taking me from 2000ft - 5000ft over a distance of 12 miles. It was incredibly beautiful. Almost like a fairy tale. I was in love with the place as soon as i entered the area. The road signs said 25mph with chains. I zipped around at 40 - no chains. How bad could it get - right ? Well, about a mile from the cabins, I backed into a small pile of snow, and my car got stuck. It just wouldn't budge. Instead of feeling upset, I was kinda happy, it gave me an excuse to stay there longer. Entranced by my surroundings, i just got off and started walking to the cabins. Didn't want to waste time calling for help. 'Later', I told myself. Walked about a mile....was overwhelmed by the whiteness against the green - and the beauty of it all. The sun bounced off against the snow crystals <did you know that snow was crystalline ?>. But the snow ploughed road, with less than a millimeter of an icy layer, was so trecherous and deceptive that i slipped and fell many, many times. Got a few good looking boo boos on my arms and legs and a deep gash on my hand. My cell-phone showed Out-Of-Range and it had started to snow some.

So i walked to an exquisite Lodge right across the cabins and asked to use their phone. A handsome guy who worked at the place, offered to shovel the snow for me and get my car going. He zipped me off on a snowmobile and we tried to make the car move, but it wouldn't budge. Then he dropped me back at the Lodge <I had never been on a snowmobile before today !!!> and I called AAA, had coffee on the house and was informed that should i choose to be the good neighbor, I could have unlimited access to the amenities at the lodge for something like $50 a month or such. I almost hugged her and cried with joy. Its one of the 4 star places - huge and pricey with pool, sauna, jacuzi, horses, cross country ski facilities....you get the picture. We talked about what living in that place is really like. Every year they get about 9 ft of snow in winter...but the thought of my 4 year old sloping down that ice makes the shovelling okey. I happen to know someone who loves to shovel snow and is great at it too !!!!

Somehow, I didn't mind that the AAA said they'd show up in an hours time. I took walks across and around the cabins, fell, got up, fell again. It was fun. I felt i was in heaven...except for the gash ! <g>

The city lights and the traffic on 101.....uggghhhhh!!!!!

I'll go up there again next week....hoping the snow would have melted a bit......
