any coments??

Thank you, David! You are obviously right in the middle of what shapes up to be a Civil War. I hope you are able to duck! I had not realized the implications of the OAS statement on your situation. I see it gives the Army the chance to sit in the Barracks.

Unfortunately, if it is as bad as you say, and Chavez will not quit, you face a "Cuba" situation. I hope you guys can get him out without total war. You are not going to get much help from us, I am afraid. We have too many aging Hippys who are still in love with the Sandinistas, and will take to the streets if we interfere.

I live in Caracas and very unhappy about how the World sees and handles the Venezuela situation.

Very interesting to hear from someone who's there for a change... you should see what the Europeans (at least the French) have been reading, especially in le Monde Diplomatique (pretty much a reference for the extreme left wing, pro communist, obsessional anti-american point of view.)

All I can say is good luck, hopefully there can be something like a peaceful transition in the end.

I really feel that the South (and Central) American countries will be important allies for the US going forward. This is partly due to demographics, as there are many Hispanics living in the USA now. While we are still closer to Europe than any other region of the world in ethnic and cultural makeup, important shifts are taking place in our lifetimes. The present urgent problems with Islamist extremism shouldn't make us lose sight of these trends and what they will mean for us and our children.

Didn't Chavez say "no elections before next August because of constitution", as a defense ?

Are ten months too long a wait for democracy, compared to a civil war that may be lost ?

Pax America can't help the deserving populations of all the oil producing countries at once. And Bush needs your oil to topple Saddam first.

The image coverage I have seen from the Venezuelian scene in the last days was pro street. Why would you think the world doesn't support your democratic aspirations ?
