So I guess the Arabs should worry about the families of the 3,000 some odd innocent victims

Perhaps. Their culture is more suitable to avenging by force, though, than that of most New Yorkers. It is not uncommon for a brother to gun down the guy who raped his sister, you know (And perhaps it was not a rape but who is going to tell him that when he has a gun in his hand? Certainly not the sister...)

Come on now... people make excuses for their behavior as they see fit...

Definitely. Trust me, I did not write this as an excuse. It was an example to show that brutal treatment of these people, to which they hold US responsible (whether or not that is correct is not my argument here), has fueled terrorism. And that the current method of intimidating allies and invading countries (rather than pinpointing terrorist organizations themselves and those who support them) is going to further fuel support for the terrorists among their public.

I came across this today in IHT:

iht.com

And btw, did anyone verify that his wife and daughter were killed by that shelling, or was he merely trying to make an excuse for his actions??

I am not sure if shouting "New Jersey" during the event (which nobody understood why at the time) was a plea for forgiveneness. In general, I find that terrorists are completely dedicated to their cause and believe they are RIGHT. So they do not tend to feel the necessity to "excuse their actions".

Any Palestinian state would be "Arafat's state", not the palestinians.. They have no organized political opposition to Arafat, thus they have no choice but to choose him.

I cannot be the judge of that and neither can you. Going by this logic, Turks who put together their country after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire should not be allowed to have a country, because they were under the rule of Ataturk, a single man. There was no opposition, organized or otherwise.

groups who specialize in conducting terrorist activities, deliberately avoiding confronting a foreign military in combat, certainly fall under such a categorization..

I agree. It is the method employed by the weak (a dissident group) to fight against the strong (a state that has an army). There is no mystery why they avoid confronting their opponent in combat - they have no means to. So they do guerilla warfare. Just like IRA, ETA, etc etc.
