LOL! Barfing.com: Claims Data Initial unemployment benefit claims fell only slightly to 433K in the week of Dec 14 vs consensus of 401K. The wild volatility of the last few weeks has left an 8 month high and a 21 month low. Continued claims rebounded 229K higher after a stronger 2 week decline. The expiration of the emergency extension of continued benefits arrive Dec 28 to leave 3/4 of a million jobless without benefit checks. Congress was silly to take off for the holiday without pushing through an extension. Retroactive payments won't smooth the resulting bounce in spending.
