Dear Neocon: I would agree for the Armies sake Professionalization is best. HOWEVER, there was a lot of advantages to CITIZENS with the DRAFT. I entered the USMC cause I didnt want to be drafted, however, even there I found fellow recruits from the inner cities that had never even been out of their city. I remember on our train ride to Paris Island how EXCITED some of the recruits were to SEE A COW. Anyhow, they got good meals, good clothes, very good medical care, learned lifes lessons, discipline etc etc. If I had my way EVERY ONE would be drafted if for no other reason than to improve the quality of the American Citizen. jdn
ps: I earned a gentlemenly C in H.S. After the USMC went to a college in the North and graduated FIRST IN MY CLASS. I give the USMC total credit for teaching me the discipline to work hard to achieve.
