<Business executives call their dodge the "cash-balance" pension. It works something like this: They get the cash, and we get the balance.>

This article is a tad biased. Most companies that are well run by honorable people always give the longer service employees the payout of cash balance plan or original pension.... whichever is great. The cash balance program is better for the younger more mobile employee who can roll it over to another fund when they leave and join another company. Otherwise they would be forced to wait until retirement. A huge caveat remains that the assumption is the leaders of a company, when they convert to the cash balance plan will do the right thing on behalf of their employees. I was lucky and worked for such a company before I started my own business.

My boss now is brilliant...enlightened...smart..fun to work with and is totally dedicated to the success of my retirement program <g>
