We do know there was a massive mud slide off the side of Mount Rainier about 1500 years ago. The mud slid down the Puyallup River Valley and buried an Indian community under hundreds of feet of mud. We are still apprehensive about massive mud flows, which could reach the cities of Tacoma and Seattle, off the side of Mount Rainier because of warming.
