Killing the crazies themselves is not a deterrent, you know, for they are happy dying in the jihad. As for their families, this sounds too mafiosi for my taste. I am sorry about this, but it is not what the Western world stands for. Deliberate killing of innocents is a Very Bad Thing, remember?Iraq is IDEAL for this because they are a heavily secular society True. Although traditionally quite observant of the religion. It might be a challenge to replace their regime with a democracy - equal rights for women etc. If any Arab nation has a chance of quickly adopting some semblance of even parliamentary democracy, it will be Iraq and Iran. I would not count so much on The Islamic Republic of Iran <g>And such a regime will be necessary for the next stage in the war, dealing with Saudi Arabia.. either through containment, or overthrow... (which I prefer).. I know you feel all this is doable, but I have some reservations about this "Let's make democracies of all countries" thing in vogue around here these days. We will see how it is played out, I guess, but I am sceptical for now. I dare say that if we can do that there [in Japan], we can do the same in the middle east, if we show sufficient resolve. Keep in mind that the Japanese are very different than the ME people - they are organized, determined, they obey authority without questions, and they are hard-workers. They are practically hive creatures. All that was necessary there was to show the way and they worked themselves to death, without questioning authority, to build their economy and all else followed. Iraq might not be as easy.
