" The whole concept of the melting pot is assimilation" Tell me please, which 1st generation ethnic group assimilated? Did they survive? Yes Did they learn the language? Many did,many did not... Did they forget their heritage? Not by a long shot..... Did they experience bigotry and hatred? You bet. Do some groups still experience bigotry and hatred? You bet.... Diversity, to my way of thinking, is an attempt to bring representation of all groups into a common environment and let them get to know each other and their heritages....ie to eliminate the xenophobia and to prepare them to meet and interact peacefully with the rest of the world.
