Bob: re: you'd think Europe was this vast, untapped and juicy market - ripe for picking by FSTW.

Actually, it is. Ripe for picking, that is. By just about any of the 275+ CRM vendors that have their "act" together. But, so is every other world market.

No, I don't mean "act", as in the product "Act!".

Here's some additional info on ACCPAC eCRM (for those of you who care how competitors might impact your investment):

re: didn't you work for or sell a company to CA?

Yep. Capex was the first major mainframe company that CA bought back in 1982. At that time, we were close to the same size. I stayed with CA for 5 years as AVP of R&D before I left to join another fledgling software company called Viasoft, which later went public and benefited greatly from the Y2K happenings.

re: What is their usual MO when diving into a market?

CA's historical pattern is to infiltrate a market segment by buying companies with tired software and an existing maintenance-paying user base. Then, they stabilize the acquired software and migrate the users to the CA chosen product. That gives the CA sales team ample opportunity to call on the new customers and sell-through the other myriad offerings that CA has. And, they've got a TON of products to offer in just about every conceivable technology area. If CA doesn't have a product in any given area, the odds are you don't really need it.

TED

More ACCPAC eCRM info ...

PLEASANTON, Calif., October 28, 2002 - ACCPAC International, Inc., a subsidiary of Computer Associates (NYSE: CA), announced today that it has been recognized by several prominent computer and accounting industry trade publications for excellence in product quality and overall industry leadership in two of the company’s key focus areas: customer relationship management (CRM) and accounting. In the past two months, ACCPAC has received a "Readers’ Choice" award and an "Editors’ Choice" award for its ACCPAC eCRM customer relationship management application. In addition, ACCPAC President and CEO, David M. Hood, has been acknowledged as both one of the top 20 most influential CRM industry executives and top 100 most influential people in the accounting industry for 2002.

The "Editors’ Choice" award for ACCPAC eCRM was bestowed by Customer Inter@ction Solutions magazine in their August 2002 issue. ACCPAC eCRM was also selected the winner in the "Best Business Applications, Customer Relationship Management" software category of the Windows & .NET magazine 2002 "Readers’ Choice Awards," published in their September 15, 2002 issue. Readers were asked to vote on their product preferences in 16 broad technology categories. More than 2,300 readers voted on nearly 90 technology products.

"We know that peer recommendations are important to our readership," said Dave Bernard, custom media editorial director, Windows & .NET magazine. "The first annual Windows & .NET magazine Readers’ Choice Awards were developed as a way for readers to choose and recommend the best technology products in the industry. Receiving this award is an industry seal of approval."

Said Customer Inter@ction Solutions magazine, "It should come as no surprise that the latest version of ACCPAC’s CRM offering, eCRM 5.0, strives for the CRM ideal of interoperability in all enterprise programs."

Said ACCPAC President and CEO, David M. Hood: "We’re extremely proud to be recognized for the excellence of ACCPAC eCRM. These awards are especially gratifying as they validate the importance of true interoperability that sets ACCPAC apart. ACCPAC will continue to develop and deliver what the marketplace is increasingly demanding-not just excellent CRM and accounting applications, but complete, integrated end-to-end business management applications for the mid-market."

Mr. Hood himself was recognized for his leadership in the areas of CRM and accounting.

In its September 2002 issue, CRM magazine designated Mr. Hood as one of "the Top 20 Most Influential CRM Industry Executives" for 2002. CRM magazine recognized Mr. Hood’s efforts in engaging and developing the Value Added Reseller (VAR) channel as a critical conduit to bringing customer relationship management software to mid-market companies. Citing Mr. Hood as a "Channel Champion," CRM magazine’s editorial staff placed him among "the 20 most important people driving the CRM market today," and one of "the A list of who’s who in CRM."

Accounting Today magazine chose Mr. Hood as one of 2002’s "Top 100 Most Influential People" in the accounting industry in their September 23, 2002 issue. The magazine designates Mr. Hood as one of "the true change-makers and pacesetters in the accounting profession" for the second year in a row, acknowledging Mr. Hood as one of those "who shape and inspire the future of accounting."

Award-winning ACCPAC eCRM integrates with ACCPAC Advantage Series and ACCPAC Pro Series back office accounting systems, providing bi-directional data support. Both are building blocks for creating a complete, end-to-end business management system incorporating ACCPAC solutions for accounting, CRM, e-commerce, human resources, manufacturing and warehouse management. Earlier this year, CPA Software News awarded ACCPAC Advantage Series 5 Stars out of a possible 5 and ACCPAC Pro Series 4.5 Stars out of a possible 5 in their January 2002 assessment of mid-range accounting software.

Maybe CA will get a shot at the Willy Award this year?
