long-gone >I thought by now the government of South Africa would have done something to prevent import of all German products due to the (manipulative)threat of gold sales by the German Central Bank.

I don't think the gov of SA is in any position to boycott anyone, let alone an important nation like Germany. Most certainly, gold is an important export but then so are German cars like Merc and BMW many of which are made in SA and exported to all countries on behalf of the German principals.
