If what Clinton had said came from a regular guy, I wouldn't have been offended. They were inappropriate for the president to make.

What Lott said was offensive, no matter who was saying it.

PS - my dad is 100% Irish and involved in things Irish. He wouldn't be offended by a jibe like that if it came from one of his buddies.

How many ordinary citizens of Ireland, Northern Ireland, or Irish-American descent cared much about this whole thing? I don't know. Did it fit into a pattern that could be construed as bigoted against the Irish? No. Is Clinton of Irish extraction? Yes. Did it in any way suggest an endorsement of oppression of the Irish, or did it merely touch on a stereotype? The latter. Apples and oranges......
