I see you are posting on the Ajami's FA article. Just read it and found it quite interesting.

I found his point about the Shiites in the south the most interesting. He was adamant they would have no working ties with Iran, which surprised me, given their history. I found the argument quite convincing, particularly given Ajami's credentials and my reading of his Dream Palace of the Arabs (I think that's the correct title, my wife stole my copy a couple of months ago and can't find it now.)

I found, however, the structure of the argument to be a bit surprising. His ending was a strong statement to get the administration to invade and not stop with inspections and elimination of wmd. Okay. However, then you read the article backwards from that point as offering reasons for such a move. And I was struck that in each argument he buttressed the argument with a view of the future which depended on a democratic Iraq. It's an attractive picture and Ajami paints it well but I kept looking for more information that would make the picture look more realistic. I didn't find it.
