White boxes are bought by the home consumer more so than the business market. The home market (as well as small business) is where the majority of them are sold. Large businesses are more likley to buy from a major firm (often bundled with service agreements etc). I would categorize the education market as big business, so I would agree that white box penetration there is minimal.

White boxes eat out of everyone's market share (by definition actually).

Dell has been trying to woo the VAR market lately, but personally I would think most VARs would fear dealing with Dell - their long time enemy.
