Funny, I've been recently thinking that, considering all the PM's I have received expressing appreciation for the quality of the postings and the for value that people take away from the thread, I've begun to change my opinion of what it is that we are really doing here. It seems more and more to me, that we cheerfully rise each day and essentially put on a performance, the best analysis we can, for the benefit of each other and for a silent audience of lurkers out there. In fact, many posters seem to relish this role and find the experience valuable. If this is indeed the correct perception, that we have almost become a public service for many readers, well, I think we should acknowledge that and try to make it the best that we can and attract the best people that we can. At least, that's the way I'm seeing things lately.

Nice way to put it.

Neocon,

I walked back early in the day to get caught up on FADG. There was lots of stuff being posted from posters I disagree with and find their posting style unacceptable to me.

I learned something important about the structure of conversations on these boards. There is a very clear network structure in those threads. So, when I added 'karen lawrence' to my ingore (message from, messages to) the other three of four members of her supporters disappeared almost completely from my view simply because I had ignore karen.

It seems that there was a group that was talking to each other but nobody else. Except of cource for you. I still had a number of posts visibile because you had bit a nicy shiny leftwing fly and you were going to fight it to the ground. You gave them some much visibility and extended the reach of the network. It seems like Karen is a hub and your nose-tweaking battle just spread the network. If you simply ignore them, they are only talking to themselves, their network wont gain nodes and momentum.

Paul
