I think he said "look at that little monkey run", and it wasn't a bad description of the action. Now given his lawyer's training, if he'd had 15 minutes to prepare, he might have said son of a bitch.

I don't know if Cosell was a democrat but he had obviously not been properly innoculated against fallout from this sort of gaffe. There must be a ceremony somewhere, not unlike some Masonic ritual, where you are given a secret sign for absolution or an industrial coat of teflon.
