Geez, I don't know. Whatever turns your fancy. If you like the term and think it gives you some explanatory grab, go right ahead. And I'll just kibbitz from the corner, of course. (g)

This conversation got started because I offered some reasons why I disagreed with the argument in the Hoover piece. Don't know how we got to yet another conversation about "culture."

Which Latin cultures did you have in mind? The South American? The Iberian? Italy? France?

The South Americans have trouble making money. Are the Iberians having trouble making money, right now? Italians, at least in the North, seem to be doing OK although if they keep buying into the whole EU ball of wax they won't for long.

I think "culture"is too broad. It might be easier to look at what counterproductive policies they have and then look for payoffs from these. Who benefits and why does it keep working for them? At that point you start to get at "culture," I think.
