Have you taken any time to rationalize what it would take for FSTW to earn that 1% number in a market where there are over 200 legitimate competitors ? If I thought that there was any chance that FSTW would earn 1% of the overall CRM action, I'd sell everything I own and plunk all the proceeds into FSTW. Heck, even better than that ... I'd figure out a way to buy the company outright !! FSTW doesn't have the sales channel, the distribution channel, or the technical staff resources to pull that off. Even with the additional "professional services" that were part of the Extreme Logic deal. FSTW used to report in PRs how many customers they had, but they stopped doing that. In a PR from 11/15/2000, they had "20,000 installed users at 200 companies in more than 20 countries". FSTW was founded in 1984. 200 customers in 16 years computes to an average of 12.5 customers per year. We know from RTB's CEO report of 10/21/2002 that they had SEVEN new customers in the 3rd quarter. That's 28 new customers annualized. So, the short term trend is positive. Conceivably, FSTW could continue increasing their penetration. But, it would take magnitudes of improvement to get anywhere near 1% of the CRM business that was done this year. Will the "disruptive technology" be as disruptive as RTB thinks it will? I don't think so. In this day and age, I seriously doubt that any technology enhancement provided by a major supplier like MSFT is going to make FSTW's or any other company's product shine above the others. Especially since most of the major players are all touting the same latest-and-greatest thing (.NET and Web Services). Wheeeee ... Just FYI, here are the results from a CIO CRM survey:e-businessworld.com Regards, TED
