Yes, the privacy issue is thorny.
When one person tells another something deeply personal in confidence, it's impossible to know what the listener will do with the information. I believe there's an oral contract not to divulge the information, (not to mention a moral one), but there are no means of recourse if it's broken. Other than forming the opinion that the individual is untrustworthy.

Profanity is interesting. Personally, I mind it far less than racist or religionist (eg. anti-Semitic) speech. But you never know what's going to offend someone. For example, I know a number of men who wince at some of my more colorful conversational speech, and a number of women who don't. I think what's wise is to have the intention of not being hurtful and to have the grace to apologize when one has, even unintentionally, offended.
