I'd give the school administrators the benefit of the doubt; that's it. We're pretty close. I'm on the fence with the Administrators. It might have been "better" if the Administrators contacted the parents, told them their kids were sickos and recommended they might think about doing something about it. While I'm not familiar with the local laws, there's nothing that jumps out as being illegal...sick and stupid, yes, but not illegal. "Sick" is a non-professional assessment. They were certainly aware enough to put a disclaimer on the web site. ...like jla carefully inserting "most" into a sentence. It means something legally; practically it means nothing. I think professional boxing is sick; cockfighting is sick; dogfighting is sick. Pulling wings off flies is sick. Which ones do you want to suspend a kid from school for?I think one of the problems plaguing American schools now is the loss of disciplinary authority by teachers, principal, and school boards. Now it's in the hands off our creaky, quirky legal system and we know how well and how fast that works. There may be degrees, but it was that way 25 years ago, when I was teaching. I'd grab a kid by the collar to take him to the office; he'd yell "You can't touch me, I'll sue". I told him, "Go ahead, I'm covered by the teacher's union insurance." Later, I'd get chewed out by the principal for touching the kid but I didn't much care. How is the English system in this regard? It's never come up. I talk to Brit parents about the schools, the curriculum [mostly math and history], the standard tests, universities and such but disciplinary themes I haven't raised and they haven't either. In this area, all the kids wear uniforms in school which I find interesting. I suspect that has a psychological impact. When I'm driving past a school when it lets out, you can see the kids rip their ties off and pull their shirt tails out. Normal kid behavior, but I chuckle anyway. One of these days I mean to get permission to sit in on a high school age history class. The description of how they teach history is interesting and I'd like to see it. They describe it in a way that I interpret as teaching the "character" of the period. The events of the period are almost incidental to the instruction. jttmab
