Computers and internet - without the government pushing these technologies along at least to begin they would never have gotten far, at least not as quickly. Gore may not have invented the internet, and never said he did, but he was a key force in getting the government behind the visionary "information superway" on which we are communicating now. With the Bushies dead set against anything but oil, nukes and coal as our energy sources it puts a cap on progress and offers zero incentives. The president must lead, not wait for business to take the lead. Or they probably never will. Grey Davis is one who is trying, but he's fighting the Bushies and their lobbyist pals all the way. They dont want him to succeed. Hydrogen producers now have no encouragement at all from the government to invest in R+D. So far it's a grass roots effort. We need a LOT more. The same goes for environmental protection and global over-population, the two most pressing issues on earth in the long run, and two isssues Bushies refuse to address in any meaningful ways.
