I think you need to take your quarrel up with the dictionary people. Perhaps they are defining the word poorly. Ignorance is not required. You can say that it is, but according to the definition it is not. You can, of course, choose to define words anyway you want to. It makes communication impossible, but sometimes that is of little matter to people.
