The "oops" excuse is the one most used, of course.
(a) I don't buy it, and
(b) even if true, those responsible should be thoroughly investigated and all relevent heads rolled.

Those who fail to take fully aggressive action must be held accountable.
Instead, what passes for "accountability" in Washington is "oops, won't happen again, sorry", and "not my fault", endless excuses.

Amazing what a lazy media and inattentive public will put up with. We basically have no valid leadership, only opportunists and profiteers in Washington.

The result will continue to be a disasterous economy, less security not more, greater profits for insiders, greatly increased Central Government, and greater secrecy laws to make sure no whistleblowers emerge.

When an analyst touts stocks, and his clients' go broke while he gets rich, you can smell the fraud in the air, even without a subpoena. The same scenario nationally -- the insiders profit mightily, while the country crashes and burns. That's not just arrogance and ineptitude, altho' there's plenty of that.

It's obviously more than just arrogance when huge political capital is spent thwarting Congressional investigations into why. It begins to look increasingly criminal. In the Iran/Contra scandal, the felony convictions came about in spite of the same sort of opposition by the Executive. We have no such backbone in Congress today.

They may get away with it for a while until there is a reckoning. Unfortunately, there will be much damage to the country in the meantime.
