>>new zip can compete with cd<<

HDL -

How are you doing? Haven't posted here in ages. Hope all is well with you.

Now, the only thing I see wrong with the above statement is that the new 750MB Zip only competes with CD-R/RW for certain things.

I fear that I'll be sounding like Rocky when I say this, but since virtually everyone has at least a CD-ROM drive these days, and since blank CD-Rs have come down to a quarter apiece or less, CDs are now a better medium for sharing files with others.

I, for one, am not even tempted a little bit to go out and spend 200 clams for a device that uses media so much more expensive than CDs. I just don't see the value in that proposition. Zip drives used to have a big speed advantage over CD burners, but that's no longer true.

My wife continues to use her Jaz drive to back up her work, but also uses CD-Rs for that purpose. Occasionally I pull out my Zip drive to read an old disk for a client, but that's about it.
