Like it our not our military weaponry is now so advanced that we can inflict heavy casualties without suffering heavy casualties.

The US military is very aware of what you have pointed out. They now insist on going in with such overwhelming force that a quick victory is inevitable.

In addition our "empire" is at least as much economic/intellectual as military in fact much more so.

ALL JMVHO

George, I find your comments very naive. We are technologically so far in front of any other country it is truly scary. There are toys, real military toys, that would pop yours eyes out that haven't been used yet, and none nuclear. Military supremacy will not be the downfall of this empire nor will the intellectual capital or democratic resolve fail us. Something else will, maybe, but it won't be religion either as the monotheistic Islamic world appears to be doomed by.

One of the truly false societies is Saudi Arabia. It is doomed to fail and with it some other rich icons that have no human basis to exist. Corruption killed Rome. We don’t know if the Roman public complaied about the casualtties or if there was civil disobedience or if the the casualties of war were not tolerated. The US public, however, already screamed about Vietnam. We didn't tolerate Vietnam. Look at the chaos that caused in our country. ‘Apocalypse Now’ wasn’t really about Vietnam. It was about corruption and the USA at least addresses its corruption and that's the difference. (Enron, WorldCom etc). Islam talks about solutions but does nothing to solve the problems of its own society. The poor remain poor and uneducated and any society that only uses half of its human capital is just plain stupid. Ironically, we are left with the conundrum of Cassius Clay.

Now again, like other movements the USA has mistakenly supported, we are just paying money for allies just like the Saudis. We gave Osama money in the fight, our fight, against the Russians. So did the Saudi’s but for very different reasons. So the question is: who runs out of money first? If Iraq goes down, the Saudi empire is at the mercy of the USA. If they kick at all, and they won’t, they will go down. That’s why Iraq has to be cleansed. I guess it’s still about money.
