One can even quote Keynes on this subject.

I have also been thinking lately of what Hemingway wrote, which went something like this: "When a goverment gets in trouble, the first thing they do is inflate the currency. When that fails, they start a war."

The awful thing is that the US wasn't really "in trouble." But it certainly will be if the dollar is deliberately cheapened, and that seems what the Fed intends to do. I think it will get out of their control.
