You want us to leave Afghanistan unfinished in pursuit of another hopeless cause...Iraq. That's what I criticize.

Afghanistan is over... It's a "mop-up" operation so long as the Pakistanis are amenable to containing the militants in N. Pakistan and not permitting them to operate in Afghanistan...

If we'd fought WWII like you want to fight this one, we'd have been forced to seize every Japanese Island, like Rabaul, rather than just by-passing them and moving on to the main target...

Afghanistan was the first "island" in this campaign.. Iraq is second, Syria likely the third, whereas it is hoped that Iran will sort itself out without outside intervention required. And the equivalent Tokyo lies in Riyadh... except this time we might be able to contain and wage economic warfare against the Saudis since most of their equipment is US made and needs our spare parts..

(it also helps that we trained, and know, their military officers, which offers us an in with regard to finding a suitable solution to the Wahhabi issue)..
