And as a friend of Israel, i must interject here that Israelis must not make the same mistake about Arab "historical connection" to the land as well. There is a body of belief in Likud that argues just that.

The majority belief in Israel is now behind two states for two peoples, and that includes Sharon, who keeps saying so even to Likudniks who don't like to hear it. The trouble is, that the Palestinians do not want this solution. Hamas says so, Hizbullah says so, and Arafat says so in Arabic as if no one could translate. He certainly behaved in 2000 as if two states for two people was something the Israelis wanted so much that they would pay any price for it. Arafat and the Palestinians are still 'going for the gold' trying to achieve two states for one people - an Arab Palestine and an Arab Israel too. That's why they launched the intifada. This is why the vast majority of Israelis regard it as an existential war, and a continuation of the War of 1948.
