B: Reports: Plane Crash Kills 46 in Iran

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec 23, 2002 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- A passenger plane crashed
in central Iran on Monday during a flight from Turkey, killing 46 people, mostly
from the Ukraine, according to television reports.

State-run Iran television said the plane crashed near the village of Aliabad,
close to its destination - the central Iranian city of Isfahan, some 250 miles
south of Tehran.

The report said the plane was carrying aerospace experts from the Ukraine. The
Arab satellite station Al-Jazeera said there were 46 victims, most from Ukraine.

It was not immediately clear why the plane crashed.

Iranian civil authorities said the plane left an airport in Turkey, according to
the Qatari-based Al-Jazeera.

The Associated Press was not immediately able to reach Iranian officials for
comment.
