You are comparing the compound growth rate of bits and transistors to the compound growth rate of demand in dollars.

Do you remember when 512KB of memory was going to be as much as anyone would need? The demand for memory, in dollars, has and continues to grow rapidly, but not even close to the growth of memory capacity. The price per byte, in dollars, falls as fast as (or almost) the growth in bytes.
