Her original statement wasn't lauding OBL.

Maybe you need to read it again:

"Sen. Patty Murray intended to be provocative when she told a group of high school students terrorist leader Osama bin Laden is popular in poor countries because he helped pay for schools, roads and even day care centers." ... "We haven't done that," Murray said. "How would they look at us today if we had been there helping them with some of that rather than just being the people who are going to bomb in Iraq and go to Afghanistan?"

There is NO WAY TO INTERPRET THIS but that this woman was praising Bin Laden and criticizing the United States (Is it any surprise? I've yet to meet the liberal who won't take any opportunity to criticize us and support our enemies ... particularly these West Coast Liberals).

Where are those earthquakes when you need them?

Ted Re..Talk about "Stupid is as stupid does"! She didn't retract her statement. All she did was make clear what wasn't clear in her original statement.

I think you need to reread her statement; especially this part.

Having a challenging and thoughtful discussion about America's future reflects the best values of a free democracy;

To sensationalize and distort in an attempt to divide does not

What do you think she meant by sensationalize and distort? Is she talking about her words to the class, or the media's interpretation, or Vances interpretation. You can take it either way. Anyway, as I told David, it was a stupid questionable statement, and won't quell the controversy; so once again you are correct; that statement does rate a "Stupid is as stupid does."

The second statement was for people who need further hand holding and explaining before they can be happy.

I just don't see anyone being happy with that ambigous statement.
