This may come as a shock to you but the Dixiecrats only switched parties 30 yrs ago; and GW was still a teenager 40 yrs ago. As long as the old dixiecrats didn't embarrass the president or the party, everyone left them alone. Lotts gaffe , only a wk after he was elected, made that impossible. Before then, Gw never had reason to dump Trent. He was too busy doing energy deals and inside trading at Harkin, remember. I see.....that rule may have applied to Nixon as well. You look the other way until they get caught doing something wrong.....like breaking into Watergate. Otherwise the GOP comes from the highest level of integrity, huh? ted
