There is a signal difference when death is an inevitability, and I am surprised you do not see it. In the first instance, even the Roman Catholic Church would consider it "heroic means " to subject her to an unreliable operation that might minimally extend her life. In the second case, a lot would depend on assessment of damage and chance of recovery. If brain death is viewed as inevitable, however, there is a reasonable calculus of how much medical resources should be consumed by an individual when they will do no good. Thus, the termination of life- support may be reasonable. This is, of course, so far from allowing a child to be born, as to be ludicrous......
