Thanks for posting those thoughts, Lurqer.
That was a great piece, that needs to be read, far and wide.

I think Bin Laden is more concerned with 1916 than the 17th century. That is when Britian and France reached the infamous Sykes-Picot agreement carving up the Middle East between them.

We also should not forget that the US is MUCH more vulnerable economically and financially today than it was in 1962 or even 1991. The US cannot wage the kind of war wanted by the neocon war hawks without reinstituting the draft and reducing domestic living standards quite substantially IMHO.

Lurqer,

RE: Vietnam syndrome. Excellent post. I'm afraid we may be in the early stages of a protracted series of conflicts that seem to have no boundaries. We are in dire need for wise leadership, but there is little evidence that such leadership is available at this time. Money and power vs. justice and human values. The latter lose by a mile.

Very astute observations, Lurqer. Washington arrogance got us into Vietnam and caused us to lose far more than we should have. Muslims are like killer bees.

"The domestic bee has lived in harmony with human beings for hundreds of years. It has been bred for gentleness and good honey production.

"By contrast, the Africanized bee is a "wild" bee that is not comfortable being around people or animals. Any colony of bees will defend its hive, but Africanized bees do so with gusto. These bees are more likely to sense a threat at greater distances, become more upset with less reason, and sting in much greater numbers."

The administration seems to have taken the Clinton approach to politics where feelings are more important than fact. I think my military bretheren are smart enough to realize that they cannot win an attrition war in Bagdad. Interesting, but dangerous times of Biblical proportions, IMHO...jj
