The latest polls show a majority of the people in the state of WA are against going to war with Iraq.

There he goes, again. It is part of the concept of liberal government that polls rule. This is what we saw during Clinton's two terms -- the inability to function without first taking a poll, and the resultant mistakes that such government brings us. The Founding Fathers, in their wisdom, created the Senate in an effort to mitigate the emotional trends of a public whom can be swayed by media and overheated rhetoric.

Unfortunately, this notion of government by polls is also the root cause of poor leadership. The Democrat party, in its inordinate concern over getting re-elected, feels it must, at all times, govern based on polls.

JFK's wonderful book, "Profiles in Courage", tells us about leadership. In it, we learned that true leaders are those who can see through the polls in pursuit of righteousness. Ironically, the party of JFK has not shown the slightest evidence leadership since his untimely demise.

Citation of the "polls" as an excuse for Murray's anti-American/pro-Bin Laden statements is evidence of shallow thinking.

People of the State of WA are her employer

AFAIK the GAO pays her wages, so technically she works for the federal gov. but she represents the people of the state of Washington.

She may get paid by GAO but its the people of WA state that can fire and hire her.

The latest polls show a majority of the people in the state of WA are against going to war with Iraq.

So. That is not what she said. I seriously doubt if the good people of Wa. think kindly of OBL and believe the US should emulate his practices.

A reasonably intelligent person would understand that she was talking about the concept implemented by OBL and not praising the man or his organization. Therefore, many of her constituents understood and agreed with the point of her commentary.

They believe it is more fruitful to put US resources into hunting down al Qaeda operatives

Now how do you know OBL and/ or his operatives aren't in Iraq.

Because US and British intelligence operatives say so. And while the Bush administration intimates that Saddam has connections with al Qaeda, the best they have been able to do is simply intimate; real proof is never forthcoming. Intimating, prejudging, hinting etc seem to be the favorite tactics of the GOP to sway public opinion.

Did Saddam send you a private email?

Huh?

removing Saddam from office and embarking on the questionable task of additional nation building.

Really. Then maybe you should get on the phone and call Sen Murray. This is part of her forward to the address to the senate on the Iraq resolution,

murray.senate.gov

Murray acknowledged that Saddam Hussein is an evil menace and agreed that disarming Iraq’s weapons capability is America’s most important objective – and one that could require military action to achieve

Don't you just hate it when she keeps contradicting you all the time.

However, she did not think military action was necessary at this time and voted against the Iraq resolution. Once again, like many of her constituents, she believes we should be putting our efforts into capturing al Qaeda.

think you are out of line telling me how the Senator of WA should speak. Once again, one of the founding principles of this country is the freedom of speech. Sen. Murray has every right to voice her, or the state's opinion in Congress, in schools, in Hell!<

AH, but does she have the right to yell fire in a crowded theater.

Now, you're suggesting she "yelled fire in a theater"; I think you've had a little to much eggnog this Xmas.

If she was out campaigning fine, she could say whatever, but in a school setting, where she is acting as a representative of the gov. no.

Sorry, guy, but she was representing her constituents and not your special interests.

Because she is my representative and not yours.

I would agree that she is your representative. I doubt if she was elected to be your personal representative, as you are the only person I have found on the internet from WA or anyplace else speaking in favor of her position. Please proved a link if you find someone else. Where is Alighieri et el. How come they haven't spoken on your side on this one.

As far as I can tell from the limited discussion over this issue, there were few that criticized her and the ones that did, naturally, were Reps. [However, one guy who wrote into the paper said he was one conservative who agreed with her.]

Furthermore, the principal of the school was not upset with Murray's comments but added that he would not be surprised if she was "demagogued" during this period of hypersensitivity to all issues having to do with one's patriotism and loyalty to the flag.

As I said in another post, back in WW II, it was all too easy to criticize those who were against the interment of Japanese Americans. It was way too easy to call those who protested against the war in Vietnam unpatriotic communists. There are always people in this country all too ready to call others unAmerican because those people do not agree with the prevailing view.......and much too often the prevailing view turns out to be a bad one.

I don't agree at all with some one like Sean Penn, a private citizen, traveling to Iraq and making the comments he made but I will fight to the death in support of his right to make that trip and say those words.

Unfortunately, there are times we are barely act like a democracy....this is one of those times.
