John, I wouldn't call Gotham "independent." However, the concept that independent research is less biased is true. That it is more accurate and worthwhile is untrue. I haven't found very many people who have been thrilled with Standard & Poor's or Value Line, which are fairly independent, though VL has funds. The fact is, research is a tough game and we often don't have access to crucial information. For example, I doubt the folks who did extensive research on Household International had an inkling that some dummies would buy it out when they issued sell recommendations. But that turned out to be the KEY piece of info and it was understandably absent from reports.
