But if AMAT was paying a dividend and came across another sector swoon like we have recently witnessed, it would not receive a valuation such as we are seeing today, and rightfully so. The cash on hand is what helps get it through these difficult times and also provides some level of comfort to investors. I think that this "comfort zone" is much more valuable than the pennies AMAT may pay out in dividends. If those pennies erode investor confidence at all, it could cost investors hundreds of millions if not billions in market value. Compare AMAT to many other stocks in the sector with no cash on hand in terms of valuation. Again, a few pennies are simply not worth it to me whatsoever.
