Maybe the 'richest 1%', as you put it... don't like endless deficits.

They shouldn't... massive deficits lead to debasement of the currency, which hits them right in the pockets.

Perhaps the richest 1% - such as William Gates Sr and Warren Buffet - see the danger to a Democracy in a country ruled by plutocrats who own most of the wealth and have most of the power.
